July 31, 2008 – To Clewiston!

We made our way south to Clewiston for research and exploring. We made a lunch stop at the Orange Box Cafe in Frostproof. The restaurant is part of Frostproof Groves orange juice packing and juice palnt. Above are cabbage palms I saw outside the restaurant window.

We made it down to Clewiston and stayed at the Clewsiton Inn. We learned when we got there that the legendary ‘Old South Bar-B-Q’ had been revived by the owners of the Clewiston Inn and made a part of their restaurant. Better yet is that the owners were able to secure one of the original cooks from ‘Old South’. WHAT GREAT BAR-B-Q!!!!!

If the looks different it’s because my computer seems to be failing and I can’t get Photoshop working. So between my second computer and my wife’s and a few different programs, I got this completed.

This socialist slide is wrong. Maybe I should get foreclosed on and take
advantage of easy refinancing. You just know savvy folks will be doing
this….AND WE PAY FOR IT!!! Worse, this is for the stock guys and investors who get to profit from this, too….all while we work hard to pay our bills. Grrrrr….

We had some Inkslinging going on Sunday. Above is Sioux Hart with Fran Matera. I’m a big fan of Fran’s work. Below is a panel from the strip he worked on, Mike Nomad/ Steve Roper.

He’s nearly an encyclopedia of the baggage contents. That wouldn’t be so bad if he had ever really performed a leadership roll in the past.

Ken Culotta wrote this one.

This brilliantly concieved by Ken Culotta. Obama is just a giant target for jokes. How can the professional comedians and cartoonists pass this wealth of material up?

Addendum:
Many thanks to my colleague Matt Bors for posting the cartoon above on his site. That was very kind. Click here to see his posting and check out the rest of his site.

I thought I would mention that the cartoon above was not intending to make fun of Obama’s name but that, as I understand it, the name Hussein is not well thought of in Iraq. After Iraq asked us to help with their troubles and Saddam Hussein was defeated, the name Hussein became mud to the good guys. Thus, Obama probably best kept the middle name under his hat while he was there.

I’ll chide myself here for taking some artistic license in the dress for the Iraqi airport employees. I pencilled it with dress shirts, ties and name tags and the cartoon didn’t read right. So, I placed more traditional garb on the fellows.

July 21, 2008 – Republican Committee Meeting!

by on Jul.21, 2008, under What\'s New?

2008-0721-marioncorepexecco.jpg

With a big Presidential battle up ahead, I’m getting back into the political ring to work like heck to get folks elected, specifically John McCain (Though I know it’s hard to tell by my editorial cartoons :) ). I certainly have some heavy reservations about John McCain, but an aimless empty-shell of a rocket like Obama sure can get your own sites set.

I was in the Orange County Republican Executive Committee (OCREC) for 11 years. Now it’s time to join the Marion County version. I went to my first meeting last night. Three and a half-hours later, it was over.  It reminded me of the old days at OCREC where we had many, many meetings averaging five hours. At the time, we in OCREC had some troubles.

Nevertheless, the time is now for action and I’m getting back thoroughly involved to get McCain into office! CHARGE!
