I spent most of the day working on the McCain campaign. Above is a sketch of a few brochures I was handling. Some pictures were being taken in the office and I thought I’d take a photo of a bit of the work I did and place it here. Below are a few hundred doorhangers I assembled.

September 29, 2008 - Editorial Cartoon Tuesday!

Aa I feel. It may crush me, but it’s for the betterment of our country. Everytime we’ve played with socialism, it grows only larger and wipes us out in other ways. It bothers me to see such foolishness going on. Such as an arrogant untrained Obama and the fools who, with pure greed, hurt us as Americans.

Author James O. Born has written three so far of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement officer, Agent Tasker, and I hope he writes more. These are very well written especially involving police activity.  For more click here to go to Genuine Florida.

I do like the covers. I think these are a geat job of design.

September 28, 2008 - Paul Newman!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.28, 2008, under Various, What\'s New?

2008-0928-paulnewman.jpg

I learned of Paul Newman’s death this morning. My favorite Newman films are ‘The Hustler’, ‘A New Kind of Love’, ‘Harper’ and, the Florida based, ‘Absence of Malice’. As I worked on other projects, I starting playing Newman films in the player. Above is a quick sketch I drew of him from ‘The Young Philadelphians’.

September 27. 2008 - Pinellas County & Caricatures!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.27, 2008, under Caricatures, Florida History!

2008-0927-eckerdcollege-col.jpg

I made my way to Eckerd College for an event that is part of their 50th anniversary. There are some very neat buildings within the campus of Eckerd. You can see those at Genuine Florida by clicking here. The sketch above is of a stairwell.

I left from there and took some photos of some really great Genuine Florida locations. Watch for those over the next few months. I made stops at Pinellas County Republican HQs. Both didn’t need any volunteers to help. So I ran off and took more photos.

Photos of a couple of the caricatures I drew are below.

September 26, 2008 - Gallery Hop & Springs!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.26, 2008, under Books, Florida History!, Sandra

Sandra and I drove to Dunnellon for a ‘Gallery Hop’ that included our friend Jeanne’s ‘Our Florida Books & Art Gallery’. She was able to get ,Florida landscape painter, Charles Rowe to appear. He rarely does personal appearances.

We did get there early and Sandra wanted to sit on the front porch of ‘Our Florida Books’. I ran around taking photos. I decided to make the mile walk to Vogt Springs, where phosphate was first discovered. Above is the wooden sign designating the area. There is also a historical marker. You can read more about this at Genuine Florida.

September 26, 2008 - Editorial Cartoon Friday!

This infuriates me! Obama knows his strengths and doesn’t want to leave his beloved bully pulpit to actual be a leader, something he hasn’t bothered to prove to this point. Whether he likes it or not, he is a Senator. He represents a part of Illinois. Out country is making one of it’s greatest decisions in it’s history. If I find out my representatives in Washington aren’t there looking after my interests, I want them out of office. I knew McCain would want to get into the midst of this and am grateful he did.

I’m against a bailout. But I better see my representatives doing something up there in Washington whether it be for or against a bailout!

September 25, 2008 - Campaign and Coffee Shop!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.25, 2008, under Florida Restaurants

2008-0925-chelsea-color.jpgI spent the first part of the day in a warehouse. Marion County has the company, Campaign Graphics, that is creating the materials for the McCain campaign. Large pallettes were laid out throughout the huge void surrounded by concrete walls. We then proceeded in moving 4′ x 8′ signs, metal leggings for yard signs, the signs themselves, etc. onto the pallettes. It was a good workout.

I later headed over to Chelsea Coffee Shop to get some drawing done. To the left is some odd coffee machine that I should probably know, but don’t.

September 23, 2008 - A McCain Rally & Dessert!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.23, 2008, under Florida Restaurants, What\'s New?

2008-0922-primaryoven-color.jpgI was up and out after about three hours sleep as I finished the Tuesday’s Glenn Beck cartoon. We had a veterans rally with someone who had been with McCain as a P.O.W. Former Governor Buddy Roemer also was part of the travelling bus tour. It went great with lots of flag waving.

Because of our location, we made another early morning starter, a coffee shop named ‘Primary Oven’, rather upset. Attendees took their parking spots at the prime hour folks going to work stop an purchase coffee. I ran over and nabbed some of their business cards to have at our table. After the event I bought one of their wonderful double cinnamon rolls, which was huge, and a glass of milk and settled on their second floor and worked on McCain button ideas. I sketched the above of a corner of the second floor, which includes art.

September 23, 2008 - Editorial Cartoon Tuesday!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.23, 2008, under Editorials

2008-0923-chargeit-fin-chri.jpg

This was written by Ken Culotta and is primarily a reflection of what Glenn Beck was speaking about Monday. I’ve been drawing about this and saw it coming for years. The country in debt, the businesses in debt, the people in debt. It can’t work.

Above is the problem. We are the solution. A bailout, in my opinion, is not. You rise. You fall. We elected the people who let this stuff get out of control. We took out the loans. How many of us are STILL using credit cards after was has been finally realized in the past few weeks. Tough for us. We went looking for trouble and found it. Time some suffered for it, including myself. Let AIG, Lehman, Washington Mutual close. We pay for them now. we’ll be paying for them again in the near future. Time they paid for their sick tactics to make a profit at the expense of others. I feel the heads of these organizations and upper management should go to prison for a long, long time. Hopefully, the F.B.I. will accomplish for us.
