by Rob Smith, Jr. on Apr.28, 2009, under Cartooning, What's New?
Been working like a madman keeping up with deadlines. To the left is a pencil sketch of one of the many drawings and art I’ve been working at feverishly in the past week.

April 25, 2009 – The Theater!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Apr.25, 2009, under Cartooning, What's New?

When I saw the word of the week for Illustration Friday is ‘Theater’ I immediately thought of the work being done by our incredible military in the Mid-East. I had to knock this out fast as I’m buried in deadlines, but wanted to draw a small bit of action in the “theater”. So this is more illustrative than the cartoony art I usually do.
Below is some sketchy stuff I did before I rushed the above out. I realized I was getting way too involved in something I had to do very fast.

April 22, 2009 – Coffee Shop Workout!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Apr.25, 2009, under Cartooning, Editorials, Various

More and more most of the art I draw is at a local coffee shop where I get away from the phones, internet and various other distractions. Here’s one of the tables at the Chelsea Coffee shop with the drawing board that friend Richard Menard got me years ago, along with pens and an editorial cartoon. I clip the I-pod to the side of the board and listen to political talk shows.

An – impossibility - most children would like to see as possible. Illustration Friday.
April 21, 2009 – Eberhart, Halliday and Flynn!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Apr.22, 2009, under Books

Two more Florida based mysteries read. One of Mignon Eberhart’s Tampa Bay novels and a later Miami-based Mike Shayne mystery. Eberhart writes of a fictious Florida County on the east coast with a pretty good understanding of the area. The Shayne novel is after the actual series by Dave Dresser. This one stays pretty true to the original series, just with curse words. I veered into one of Vince Flynn’s latest, ‘Protect and Defend’. Another good thriller.

April 15, 2009 – Orlando Remembered & Tea Party Art!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Apr.22, 2009, under Florida History!, What's New?

I was at the monthly Orlando Remembered meeting. Above is Duke Crittenden, Tana Porter, Charles Gray and Mayor Carl Langford. Below is a new comer, Melanie King, whose Grandfather designed the former Orange County Courthouse that the history museum is now using. Here Melanie King get’s the opening poster of the museum from museum curator, Sarah Van Arsdel.

I drew a lot of signs during the Orlando Tea Party. Here is one. For more photos of crowds and such click here at Rob’s Right.
