by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.30, 2011, under Cartooning, Illusration, Sketchbook, What's New?
Was doing the live drawing again using Justin TV and in 3 hours got a ton done! below shows the lot drawn which includes Tuesday’s editorial cartoon, Tuesday’s Swampy’s Florida, a bunch of book illustrations for a client, a character sheet for another client, a drawing of Ronald Reagan for a Justin TV viewer, etc. The Sketch O’ Week is also in the mix and shown above. Contributing subjects were Joe Read, “Monkey” , and TDebondt, “Fire & Baseball”. That was a tough one, but I did draw it right on the spot after the subjects were provided.

August 22nd, 2011 – Lots o’ artwork!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.23, 2011, under Cartooning, Illusration, Sketchbook
Had a dental emergency last Friday which threw behind a stack of artwork I needed to get done. So I jumped on Justin TV and knocked out some 30+ illustrations in about five hours. Included in that are the two cartoons shown here. The one above is taking in two suggestions from watchers on Justin TV and quickly coming up with a funny scene. Above is involving Terisa Glover’s “Rollerblading” and Joe Read’s “Boxer”.
Below is a second one from Read and a friend also watch Justin TV. There suggestion involved their Aunt and flowers.
Below is a bunch of the artwork I drew today.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.18, 2011, under Cartooning, Florida History!
Headed over to Lakeland to see a double feature of ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ & ‘Godzilla’ at the Polk Theater in Lakeland with Terisa Glover. Here I am with Swampy in between the double feature. Florida history abounds here between the historic Polk theater and that most of ‘Creature’ was filmed in Florida.
Sketched this as if the double feature of films was one.
Made an “obligatory” ice cream stop and plunged into Baskin Robbins Captain America sundaes: Super Soldier Sundae & Hydra Force Sundae with Terisa and friends!
August 14th, 2011 – New Swampy’s Florida coloring book premiere!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.16, 2011, under Cartooning, Swampy's Florida, What's New?
Introduced the newest Swampy’s Florida coloring book Saturday at a back-to-school event in Marion County at our Springs Festival tables. This new coloring book features the springs in Marion County and illustrates how a spring operates. Over 500 coloring books were given out to young folks that came through the events. All in conjunction with promoting the upcoming Marion County Springs Festival, September 24th.
Above is me before the event started with a couple of helpers. Below is the organizer of our Springs Festival contribution, Lisa Saupp, with a coloring book that I drew a drawing for her in.
August 11th, 2011 – Weekly Sketch 2 – Shoelace Trip & Chef!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.12, 2011, under Cartooning, Sketchbook
During the Justin TV broadcast asked for two contributions from those listening. “Artform” provided ‘tripping on a shoelace’ and “Filler1008″ wrote ‘Chef”. I took it from there and the artwork is above.
August 10th, 2011 – Weekly Sketch 1 !
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.11, 2011, under Cartooning, Illusration, Sketchbook
During a live stream on Justin TV yesterday I thought I’d try another of the sketches many fellow artists did in March. Two watching contributed: “Coldchain” offered Swimming and “Rtb243002″ added Lion. So I drew the drawing above.
July 23rd, 2011 – Florida East Coast Railroad!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.10, 2011, under Florida History!, Sketchbook
I attended the Florida East Coast Railway Society Modular RR Display and “Train”ing Session at the Brevard County Library in Cocoa on July 23rd. While there I got to hear a talk by the Dean of FEC history, Seth Bramson. His books are terrific and specifically his ‘Speedway to Sunshine” is a wonderfully written with terrific photographs laying out the history of the railways along the east coast of Florida. You can learn more about Seth and find his books by clicking here. Above is a sketch I drew during his talk.
Another sketch during another talk about model trains. The young fellow on the left was streaming the talks on UStream, something I’ve been known to do from time to time.
Here’s an actual photo of Seth Bramson speaking, in case the sketch is too sketchy.
Here “Caboose Mikey” explains how a steam engine works.
An entire model of the Florida East Coast Railroad was there depicting north of Jacksonville all the way south to Dade County. Here is the mode area around U.S. 1 and Viera Boulevard in Melbourne. You could drive there now and this is what it looks like!
