Guess what I did today?

This is Angie Boynton, who is in charge of the Ocala Republican Womens Federation. She’s also heading the McCain campaign in Marion County.

This is Pam Archer who assembled the shindig I drew at.

This is Pam’s mother, Ann, who is Republican Woman of the Year. She has been involved with the party since many years ago in Dade County at the same time my grandparents were involved. She even lived near them. She later was involved in Broward County and now Marion County is lucky enough to have her lifetime of insight.

Guess what I did today?

2008-0812-hbarichmenard.jpg

Above is Rich Menard who I used to work with at Orlando City Hall until I got sick of his fishing stories and I quit….. Just kidding!
I hadn’t seen Rich since I left Silly Hall 2 and a half years ago and he looks just as he did oh, so many years ago. It was great to see Rich and his very funny view of life!

There were other City Hall people at the event I was at who seemed not to have aged a year. Rhonda Lattimore looks just as she did when I met her some 22 years ago. Must be some Fountain of Youth at City Hall. I somehow by-passed that fountain.

Another ageless one is Keith Grayson (Above), a heck of a nice guy, who I didn’t know loves a good Western flick. So I placed him in some True Grit garb with his trusty steed out to save the day!

Here’s a great young lady, Christina. She’s been at City Hall for a few years and I drew her in what I recall her office area to look like. That was an interesting challenge to remember!

August 9, 2008 - Richard Lorenz 60th Bday!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.09, 2008, under Caricatures

2008-0809-richard-lorenz.jpg

Today was my friend Richard Lorenz’s 60th BDay! He had a big wing ding at his new digs near the Lake and Seminole borders. Guess what I did? Here’s Jeff, a good gun-toting American! Everybody duck!

After more than five hours of drawing, I only took one photo and it was my next to last drawing. I gotta do better than that!

August 8, 2008 - Marty Caricature!

Volusia County Sheriff’s Mike Dye drove up from Deland to have this painted for his colleague who is retiring after twenty years of public service. Above is a photograph of the watercolor caricature I created over at Chelsea Coffee for Mike today.

I’m also linking this to Illustration Friday, since it’s subject this week is ‘Sail’.

July 10, 2008 - To Volusia County!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.10, 2008, under Caricatures, Florida Attractions, Florida Restaurants, Sandra, Various, What\'s New?

2008-0710-richardsplace.jpg Sandra and I made our way to Volusia County this Thursday morning. We made a breakfast stop at the well-established ‘Richard’s Place’ in Ocala. There is a sketch of a fellow who was yapping on the cell phone.

We crossed the Ocala National Forest and made our first top at Shelt-Air private plane service within the Daytona Beach International Airport. While Sandra did her interviews for the magazine article she’s writing. I sketched planes. After this we went to DaytonaUSA. It’s all about racing and more than worth the cost of admission. You will get so busy at the attraction, that you might be like me and not even have time to draw a sketch there! 2008-0710-sheltair.jpg
2008-0710-c-cari-oertel.jpg Later, I drove down to Ormond Beach and worked with long-time cliet, Jean Oertel, on a caricature at Billy’s Tap Room. Billy’s opened in 1922 and was thriving very well this Thursday night.

A tiny version of the drawing I did is to the left. The original is very large.
