by on Apr.14, 2020, under Cartooning, Illusration

Here’s the Ha-Ba-Da-Bee #16 Live Drawing I did Saturday.
Made up as I went along from words given by those watching in a little over an hour with gray later added.
All improvisation with no pencils or preparation. Just ink on blank paper.

Thanks to Tony Petry for his great help during the broadcast!
Also thanks to my neighbors, the Fishers, for providing the setting!

Next live broadcast: Tuesday at 3pm.

My Projects in Progress: Cartoon Elephants!

by on Nov.04, 2019, under Cartooning

Here’s the pencilling part of an illustration I’m working on. Can’t show the rest. A surprise, y’see.

This illustration is of another person who collects elephants. Elephants are a new wide spread collectible. I hear about folks collecting them now more than at anytime in my 40 years asking about collections.

Rarely hear about folks collecting much of anything anymore. Hardly ever hear of folks collecting comics, coins, dolls, etc. Elephants are an exception. Don’t know why.

Hope to show the finished version down the road.

Reworking an earlier drawing for one item. I put this together for watercolor. I’ll be doing still another version Wednesday.

Working hard to clear a slew of projects by the weekend. Is it any surprise one project has kitties in it? 🙂

My super elephant in color!

by on Sep.08, 2019, under Cartooning

Here’s the color version of the super elephant I did a few days ago. Bouncing from one project to the other of a wide variety of entirely different subjects and uses. Some I can share and some I can’t. I’ll share what I can. More to come!

My current projects: Super Cartoon Elephant!

by on Sep.02, 2019, under Cartooning

Trying to clear away as many projects as I can in case I lose electricity. Here’s one illustration involving a super elephant.

Rarely use a Micron brush. Don’t know why. Worked well.

My newest watercolor painting! – August 31st, 2019

by on Sep.01, 2019, under Cartooning, Illusration

Here’s the watercolor painting I did for my step-daughter, Amber, for her baby shower that happened earlier to day in Mount Pilot, North Carolina.

It’s 11″x14″ watercolor on Crescent board. Inked with various brush pens. I sure miss the Arches watercolor board.

Had to do this pretty quickly. Most of the animals shown were also figurines on the cake for her.

Book: ‘The Golden Age Spectre Archives, Vol. 1’ by Jerry Siegel – August 18th, 2019

by on Aug.19, 2019, under Books, Cartooning

The Golden Age Spectre Archives, Vol. 1

The Golden Age Spectre Archives, Vol. 1 by Jerry Siegel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Spectre has always been a favorite of mine. Specifically the mid-1970s comic stories written by Michael Fleischer and drawn by Jim Aparo. So, I thought I’d dash through this collections of the very first Spectre stories.

The forward well details the start of the series and the oddities of the character. All to point out, something forgotten in today’s comics, that this is all in fun. It’s silly science fiction.

The 13 tales are all good guy versus bad guy. With the bad guy able to do whatever the imagination of the writer concocts. All simple stories with outrageous ghostly marauding revenge to those who lurk in evil. All fun. These are really all comics should ever be.

The artwork is primitive to what was later seen in the late ’60s through the early ’80s. The effort to good storytelling is obvious and done as new ground is broken in comics artistry.

Note: I’m adding books of comics to my reading lot trying to keep my head in my work as a storytelling illustrator.

Bottom line: I recommend this book. 8 out of ten points.
