#InkTober #10 – Drawing a Crowd.
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Oct.15, 2024, under Caricatures, Cartooning
October 10th had me improvising what popped up in the chat area for InkTober #10. This was the 2nd drawing. One visiting was from “somewhere near Minnesota and Michigan”, thus the map. Mention of Minnesota had me remember, my old pal & caricaturist, Greg Gray. Banjos, laughing dogs, dinosaurs, Chinese and My Little Pony all became part of the chat area.
Made up as I drew.

My caricature of Charles lee of Audubon from 2012…..
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.24, 2023, under Caricatures
I did this watercolor caricature of Charles Lee, now retired from Audubon Society. He had been a speaker at a series of talks hosted, by a group I’m with, the Florida Springs Institute. This was a ‘Thank You’ made and sent to him.
This was 11″ x 14″ watercolor paper. I believe I inked this with a Markette marker. The Company that made markettes was bought and eliminated by the Sharpie/Sanford Company.

8 years ago I did this large 30th anniversary card….
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.04, 2023, under Caricatures, Cartooning
In 2015 I penciled, inked and watercolored this 19″ by 12″ anniversary card.
It was for a Marion County employee who had, at the time, served 30 years. I related well to this, as this would’ve been the same year i would’ve celebrated 30 years if I had stayed with the City of Orlando.
The subject was part of a philosophy discussion group that I was a part of and existed at the time.

My Happy 90th Birthday card art from 10 years ago!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.21, 2023, under Caricatures, Cartooning
10 years ago, my friend, Ann Gold turned 90 years old. Since then she’s up and died.
This would’ve been her 100th birthday.
She was a good lady who was a leader and worked hard. Her hero was Ronald Reagan.
I loved talking to her and hearing her stories of her decades in Dade County, Florida.
I sure do miss ol’ Ann.
This was Markette ink & watercolor on Strathmore watercolor paper.

INKvember #7 – Death of Leslie Phillips.
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.10, 2022, under Caricatures, Cartooning
To Americans, Leslie Phillips is nearly unknown. In the U.K., Phillips had been one of the longest performing actors until his death Monday at 98. His work is mostly known for comedies of various sorts and popular series, like the ‘Carry On’ and ‘Doctor in…’ films.
His career spanned from the late ’30s to present. Unlike the lofty silliness of the U.S. Hollywood, where a “Star” is relegated to film or television or whatever the stage in life requires, in the U.K. an actor can do whatever they want and do. Phillips would slide from a comedy to a television spot to a serious film to a children’s television spot and back to film again.
He was one of favorite actors that i was tickled was still with us and was routing for him to hit his 100.
I drew and made most of this as I drew as #INKvember #7.
I’m thinking I made add some other actresses and actors still with us and with a long, noted career to my INKvember activities.
That will also aid getting back t caricature, something that has become far more difficult due to the wrist and arm break.
