My current projects: Super Cartoon Elephant!

by on Sep.02, 2019, under Cartooning

Trying to clear away as many projects as I can in case I lose electricity. Here’s one illustration involving a super elephant.

Rarely use a Micron brush. Don’t know why. Worked well.

My newest watercolor painting! – August 31st, 2019

by on Sep.01, 2019, under Cartooning, Illusration

Here’s the watercolor painting I did for my step-daughter, Amber, for her baby shower that happened earlier to day in Mount Pilot, North Carolina.

It’s 11″x14″ watercolor on Crescent board. Inked with various brush pens. I sure miss the Arches watercolor board.

Had to do this pretty quickly. Most of the animals shown were also figurines on the cake for her.

Book: ‘The Golden Age Spectre Archives, Vol. 1’ by Jerry Siegel – August 18th, 2019

The Golden Age Spectre Archives, Vol. 1

The Golden Age Spectre Archives, Vol. 1 by Jerry Siegel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Spectre has always been a favorite of mine. Specifically the mid-1970s comic stories written by Michael Fleischer and drawn by Jim Aparo. So, I thought I’d dash through this collections of the very first Spectre stories.

The forward well details the start of the series and the oddities of the character. All to point out, something forgotten in today’s comics, that this is all in fun. It’s silly science fiction.

The 13 tales are all good guy versus bad guy. With the bad guy able to do whatever the imagination of the writer concocts. All simple stories with outrageous ghostly marauding revenge to those who lurk in evil. All fun. These are really all comics should ever be.

The artwork is primitive to what was later seen in the late ’60s through the early ’80s. The effort to good storytelling is obvious and done as new ground is broken in comics artistry.

Note: I’m adding books of comics to my reading lot trying to keep my head in my work as a storytelling illustrator.

Bottom line: I recommend this book. 8 out of ten points.

Watercolor by me and meetings. – November 21st, 2018

by on Nov.21, 2018, under Cartooning

Finished another project today. Painted and inked and ready to go.

Next is the giant painting.
Tomorrow I’ll post my annual Black Friday offering for those who might want a painting by me super cheap.

The painting was done during the comic book club meeting Wednesday evening in The Villages, a place I can’t stand. At a gig last year a member invited me to come as a guest. I started last January and the group has had a profound affect on me as i have refocused on my training in comic books and as a storyteller. That had me turning a number of projects into comics projects. More to come involving that!

The group also had me realize I have boatloads of comics that needed a home. Thus, my trading out my collection to a good home for car care.

Earlier in the day I worked during my weekly meeting with Tom Orr. In the back of the borrowed car I’ve been using was the alligator pirate stand up I planned to return Tuesday to Julianne’s Coastal Cottage until backups on 75 sent me home to try again Friday. Anyway, got a pic of Tom and the sword wielding gator.
