by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.06, 2016, under Cartooning
This drawing was for today over at my Swampy’s Florida to celebrate Saint Nicholas Day today. This is St. Nick meeting the actual Saint Nicholas. Didn’t have time to color it, so I’ll use it next year.!

I’ll try to share more detailed versions of some of these later.
Cartooning the Marines! – November 9th, 2016
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.09, 2016, under Cartooning
My Swampy’s Florida daily celebrations continue and tomorrow’s celebrates the Marines. I needed a model and so happens my friend Brent Schell graduated his first Marine platoon Wednesday. (Congratulations, Brent!) His wife Andrea Schell posted a photo of Brent in his uniform. A perfect model to ensure accuracy of my drawing to celebrate our Greatest American Heroes in the Marines protecting our country, like Brent! 🙂
Though maybe it shouldn’t get around the platoon that Brent was the model for a cartoon cat. 😀 The inked version is above.
Former classmates and drawings at a Victory Party! – November 8th, 2016

It was great to see Lynette & Suzette Duncan Weddington at a party Tuesday night. I think the last time the three of us were together was during a play we did at Edgewater High School, ‘Dirty Work at the Crossroads’. Unlike myself, Lynette and Suzette have not changed a bit. Stephen Orth, who played the dastardly bad guy, likely remembers that triumph of us thespians! 😀
Otherwise, I volunteered my bit of humorous illustrative life coaching.

Was part of a marriage rehearsal Saturday north of St Augustine.
Very honored to meet Bob who started with a mere 20 cents and built a construction company through great work and effort, something that escapes too may today. His company eventually was bought by the Orlando based Hubbard Construction Company. His family is still working for Hubbard, now owned by corporations outside our country.
Rich loves orchids of all kinds, especially bromeliads, and hopes to meet Clyde Butcher someday and purchase a few prints of Clyde’s photography. I told him what great folks Clyde and Nikki are and get on down to Venice, Florida, and say ‘Hello’! Also, he needs to plan a trip to the Fakahatchee Strand to see the elusive Ghost Orchid. You can visit Clyde’s amazing work here on Facebook by clicking here: Clyde Butcher
Troy is part of the historically significant Mickens family in West Palm Beach. He had been part of the also historic New Bethel Church, but has recently gone on to start a new church where he is pastor. Had a few moments to talk Palm Beach County history with Troy and hope I can meet with him in West Palm Beach and get a personal tour of the historic churches.
Saturday it’s a trip to Titusville to perform for a wedding at a BAKERY! They better hide the cookies!

On a personal level: The past week knocked me out Monday. Got tire replaced today and celebrated Jacob’s birthday and preparing to be part of monster event Wednesday morning.

#INKtober #10 – Birthday Greetings!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Oct.10, 2016, under Cartooning
Turn to birthday greetings for INKtober #10! October 10th is my friend Patty Thielen Register‘s birthday. She and her husband run the wonderful Gatorama and Crocodile Adventures way down in Palmdale, Florida, where you can see all kinds of alligators and all kinds of other critters. Well worth the trip!
The other birthday is of Chris Chan who does an incredible impression Barry Manilow. He is a consummate performer from putting together an event, piano playing and so much more! You can learn more here: Chris Chan’s Musical Tribute to Barry Manilow.
Put both Patty and Chris in a Birthday Blender and there’s Okee, the Gatorama gator, doing his disco turn of Barry Manilow. On stage Live! 😀

#INKtober #7 – Birthday Foursome!
Yesterday it came to me I could use some of these INKtober inked works to celebrate birthdays. Today there are four I could link together! All about education and reading. Here are four that try to get those ideas out to all.
I recall speaking with birthday girl June Cochran about the importance of learning and reading and wishing more would do that. Birthday boy Randy Osborne spends an enormous amount of time working politically toward better education for our little people here in Florida and nationally. For a few decades birthday boy Phillip Dana Yeh has traveled all over the US and other parts of the world encouraging reading and learning through organizations like his ‘Cartoonists across America & the World’. I am so glad to have worked with both Randy & Phil toward their goals. Howard Victor Chaykin, who also celebrates a birthday today, is a legendary comic book illustrator I’m proud to have original art of. Comic books have long been an entry for young people to read their whole lives. I am an example of that. 🙂
Happy Birthday wishes to all four!!!
I know the art should only only be ink. I touched a bit of color for clarity and to add color to how Phil would use paintings to get his point across.
Tomorrow’s INKtober entry will come late from Georgia!
#INKtober #6 – Birthday Greetings! – October 6th, 2016

#Inktober #6
Was going to post work I’m doing until I saw a couple of birthdays. Suddenly occurred to me I could post birthday greetings here with inked art.
Since I’m a kitty person, it was fun drawing a kitty wishing my friend Trisha Kirby Happy Birthday! Seeing it’s also Mimi Wells birthday, I stick the kitty in a costume reminiscent of Gilbert & Sullivan and put the kitty on stage. Mimi, who I know by another name, was one of the funniest people in high school and also did a play or two.
I’ll add my computer has been out for a few days and am trying to post this via an iPhone.
Already did a birthday drawing for tomorrow. Found 4 friends having birthdays Friday with similarities! 🙂
