by Rob Smith, Jr. on Mar.16, 2009, under Caricatures
I was at ‘We Surround Them’ in Kissimmee at Kool Katz restaurant. For more about the event read and see more at the Robs Right blog.
After the meeting I proceeded in drawing free caricatures of the attendees. Here are a few.

Guess what I did Friday? Above is Craig Taoka, who always does a great job as D.J. at the event! Below is Cook Neilson, who in 1977 became the first and only winner of the Daytona Super Biker series with a Ducati motorcycle.
March 2, 2009 – Jury Duty!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Mar.02, 2009, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Friends, What's New?
Wow! I thought I’d be in and out in five hours tops. After 25 years of being contacted about every year and a half to serve on Jury Duty, I’ve never been there so long! Ten and a half hours. Does this mean more people needing lawyers to solve their problems or lawyers being better at getting cases?
Nevertheless, I got A LOT of artwork finished! I brought more than I thought I could get done. I finished all of that and still had time to work on other projects, too!
Included here are pieces of art I finished.
December 19, 2008 – Caricatures in Orlando!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.20, 2008, under Caricatures, Florida History!, What's New?
Guess what I did today? This event being a bit different. It was in the area where I was born and raised of Orlando. A couple of fellow helpers of Orlando Remembered were there like Bobby Duncan and Hartwell Conklin (below). Hartwell was instrumental in the expansion of the media in Florida from the development of WESH, WFTV, WDBO, televising the U.S. conquest of space to his P.R. duties with the Sentinel Star. Above is Howard who ran in Orlando the well known Champagne Color, which handled everything involving film.

I was Andy Thornal’s Outfitters in Winter Haven to sign books with author, Rick Dantzler, above signing. Rick’s new book is ‘Gators vs. Bulldogs’. I usually don’t just sign but add an illustration, too. Such as the photos above, right and below.
Later guess what I did in Lakeland?

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.04, 2008, under Caricatures, Cartooning, What's New?
After completing a caricature in Orlando I headed to Ocala to work on the float for the Republican Federated Women’s group. I wanted to be involved earlier, but the cold a couple weeks ago severly messed up my schedule from the float to my annual Christmas card.
Above and below are photos of the faux book I created. I expected this to take me 12 or more hours. Being out of time I somehow pushed this out in three hours. I still had an editorial cartoon to scan in and color. I didn’t finish the cartoon until the wee hours of Friday. That messed with the ability to get it to Glenn’s site in time. For some reason I decided to get a bit more complicated with color with an already complicated cartoon. I ended up spending more time coloring the cartoon than making the art in the photos shown here. By the way that’s Ann Archer standing by the giant “book”.
November 23, 2008 – Gig in Gainesville!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.23, 2008, under Caricatures, What's New?
Here are folks I drew in Gainesville at the Thomas Center. For more of the Thomas Center click here and see more at Genuine Florida.
To the left is a sketch I drew there.
After the gig, I headed home at about 2 something in the morning. I stopped at the Steak ‘N Shake on US441. I ordered a steakburger meal. I got cold unslated french fries, oddly drained baked beans, a chocolate shake with strawberries in it and a very odd burger. See below. I guess they ran out of buns. That and proper training.
I’m too much a fan of Steak ‘N Shake to know this is NOT the norm. I’ve never received anything like this before and I’ve been a devoted fan for since I was consious of being taken to the Steak ‘N Shake on 17-92 in Winter Park. This is strange and indicitive of something very wrong at this particular Steak ‘N Shake.
