November 22, 2008 – Gig in Orange County!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.22, 2008, under Caricatures, What's New?
It’s been a week of fighting a cold. I started this event feeling lousy. Somehow five and a half hours later, non-stop drawing, I actually felt better. These three photos are from very near the end of the gig.
This was the last one drawn. A lady who is a fan of comics and fantasy. It’a always fun drawing monsters. See the Stephen King cartoon I did Friday fro Glenn Beck below.
One of the simplist I drew of the adults. She’s a steak fan.
I learned alot about this fellow including his love of James Bond and heading to Clearwater Beach. So here I have him being chhased around what’s left of the giant round-a-bout just east of Mandalay Drive in Clearwater. The bad guys are in hot pursuit going around with him.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Oct.27, 2008, under Caricatures, What\'s New?
We had a Republican Rally in Ocala this evening. I drew some caricatures in the reception area as of Danielle above.
Mel Tillis came out and gave of his time with his full band. I’ve been a fan of Tillis since I was a small fellow watching him during his appearances on the Carson Show. I still have cassette tapes of Tillis on the show. There’s one song he sang on his show that never appeared on his album and to this day still wonder why that happened.
Mel Tillis and his band had just performed in Branson and gave us the full show. I’ve wanted to see him in concert for years, make that decades now. Each time the opportunity arose, something would happen and I or we couldn’t make it. His performance was terrific!
Besides Mel’s great singing, these fiddlers were outstanding!
By the way, check out my friend, Jennifer’s, recent encounter with Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity in Tampa.
October 15, 2008 – Va Visit & Gags!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Oct.15, 2008, under Caricatures, Cartooning
Above is Joan (Pronounced Jo-Ann) a corporal who is currently visiting the Veterans Administration’s nursing facility in Orlando. I visited today and Joan was one of the military I entertained. Joan let me know that people around the facility call her by her rank, Colonel. A fitting reguard for a lady who has served her country throughout her life, from WWII to present. I think we shopuld all salute JOAN!
I later met with old buddies, Neal Davies and Ken Culotta, for some food and some gag writing, This is the only McCain work I did today as we came up with cartoon ideas to last throughout the election. Above is a waitress I sketched.
September 27. 2008 – Pinellas County & Caricatures!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.27, 2008, under Caricatures, Florida History!
I made my way to Eckerd College for an event that is part of their 50th anniversary. There are some very neat buildings within the campus of Eckerd. You can see those at Genuine Florida by clicking here. The sketch above is of a stairwell.
I left from there and took some photos of some really great Genuine Florida locations. Watch for those over the next few months. I made stops at Pinellas County Republican HQs. Both didn’t need any volunteers to help. So I ran off and took more photos.
Photos of a couple of the caricatures I drew are below.
September 11, 2008- Sandra Speaks and Another FOWA Dinner!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.11, 2008, under Caricatures
Sandra gave a talk on how to greate a guide book to the Florida Outdoor Writers Association today. While I monitored her slide show, I sketched her above.
After that I drew a few caricatures for the Marion County Covention and Visitors Bureau.
Later we were at another FOWA dinner. Below are sketches of other attendees.
September 1, 2008 – More Swampwalking!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.01, 2008, under Caricatures, Florida Outdoors!
Still out in the Big Cypress Swamp! Here is another sketch made while in the swamp. It’s a lone cypress knee.
Below are more caricatures I drew today.

This is Angie Boynton, who is in charge of the Ocala Republican Womens Federation. She’s also heading the McCain campaign in Marion County.
This is Pam Archer who assembled the shindig I drew at.
This is Pam’s mother, Ann, who is Republican Woman of the Year. She has been involved with the party since many years ago in Dade County at the same time my grandparents were involved. She even lived near them. She later was involved in Broward County and now Marion County is lucky enough to have her lifetime of insight.

Above is Rich Menard who I used to work with at Orlando City Hall until I got sick of his fishing stories and I quit….. Just kidding!
I hadn’t seen Rich since I left Silly Hall 2 and a half years ago and he looks just as he did oh, so many years ago. It was great to see Rich and his very funny view of life!
There were other City Hall people at the event I was at who seemed not to have aged a year. Rhonda Lattimore looks just as she did when I met her some 22 years ago. Must be some Fountain of Youth at City Hall. I somehow by-passed that fountain.
Another ageless one is Keith Grayson (Above), a heck of a nice guy, who I didn’t know loves a good Western flick. So I placed him in some True Grit garb with his trusty steed out to save the day!
Here’s a great young lady, Christina. She’s been at City Hall for a few years and I drew her in what I recall her office area to look like. That was an interesting challenge to remember!
