May 17, 2009 – Inkslingers & an Orangutan!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on May.19, 2009, under Cartooning, Friends, What's New?
Sandra and Rob made their way to the Suncoast Inkslingers meeting in Pinellas County. It was held at writer Sandy and brainy scientist/bass choral singer Bill Huff’s large property.
Above is a film of Rob cartooning a suggestion by Ron Johnson at the meeting. Sandy Huff broke open a pile of sketch pads and colored pencils. Rob took advantage of them. Under the film is the drawing Rob drew. Ron is telling a story of an interesting encounter, if you can hear it.
Below is a photo of some attendees: Kurt Wright, Jim and Dan Smith.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on May.12, 2009, under What's New?
My second attempt to film me sketching. The batteries ran out, but I got a solid minute nevertheless. I’m sketching on of the original building from the rearly 1900s of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. By the way, I went to Rollins, my sister went, my mother went, etc.
Below is the final sketch.
Later we had a birthday dinner at my favorite steak spot in the world – Linda’s La Cantina. Below is the table beside us as the waiters were cleaning the table.

April 10 & 11, 2009 – Going Home!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Apr.22, 2009, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Editorials, Friends, Other Travels, What's New?
We got ourselves together for an early morning trip home. Here Jeff Mallett, Bil Hinds, Mike Ramierez and Jeff Bacon wait for the van to take us to Frankfurt airport.
On the plane I sketched Jack Davis, who sat just in front of me. His airline tickets are in his top pocket.
After landing in London, we had a looooooooooooooooong wait at the Heathrow airport. Here Bill Hinds, Bill Amend and Mike Ramierez relax and chat.
Jack Davis and Jeff Bacon share tales.
We finally got to Washington DC and stayed overnight at a nearby hotel. We exchanged good byes and a hope to gather again for another trip to entertain our troops and realize how incredible our military is and more over how lucky we are to live in the USA!
I had a ton of time before my flight. The rest of the guys were gone and I was told that going into Washington DC itself might have me missing the plane. Soooo, I went to a mall….and I found the Easter Bunny!
