What I was working on 1 year ago until…..
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.01, 2023, under What's New?
A year ago I penciled these pages for a planned Swampy’s Florida book to be called ‘Swampy’s Florida Halloween Party’.
Little did I know that 4 days later I’d break my drawing right wrist and arm. I was out of commission through September and had to focus on non-Swampy projects to pay the bills. Projects that took 10 times longer due to the lengthy healing of my wrist and arm. I really wasn’t back to drawing closer than usual until about February.
There’s been a mighty delay, but I plan to jump back into the Halloween project in a couple weeks.
Look for updates here.
In the meantime, I’m working hard to get ‘River of Life’ #2 done.

My Book Reviews: ‘Guardian Angel Getten’, Volume 1, by Minene Sakurano
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.30, 2023, under Books
Guardian Angel Getten Volume 1 by Minene Sakurano
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Standard, if not stereo-typical, manga story. Boy, girl, 14-year-olds, conflict, magic.
This one very poorly illustrated and poor layouts.
Clearly sailor Moon was an influence. Those involved shoulg’ve studied the story telling.
Bottom line: I don’t recommend this book. 4 out of ten points.
My ‘Children at Play’ illustration I did live in 2019….

Drew this live as entertainment to help raise funds during an event for a group I’m with, Champions for Champions.
This is on 19″ x 20″ Canson board.
My Book Reviews: ‘Hungry Hill’ by Daphne du Maurier
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.29, 2023, under Books
Hungry Hill by Daphne du Maurier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
First, this is not a happy volume. du Maurier builds up, I believe, the largest body county of any of her books. Mostly of the of the family that is the focus of the book. Not an uplifting book.
This is another of du Maurier’s sprawling novels following a family over a century plus. The characters are very well developed. There are a lot of characters and du Maurier does it again creating and then consistently using those characters as her story goes along.
Her writing of the mining business and those that work those mines is very impressive. Especially those that run the mines and the interaction with the business.
I love du Maurier’s writing ability and this book is worth that reading trek.
Bottom line: I recommend this book. 8 out of ten points.
My artwork from 13 years ago…..
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.28, 2023, under Cartooning, Illusration
A slew of projects I penciled and inked, this day, back in 2010.
Today, I can’t remember what most of these were for. A couple were for my Swampy’s Florida site.
I can tell each is drawn on 11″x 14″ Bristol cardstock. The paper used to be easy to acquire back then, Today, it’s very, very difficult for a singular artist to get reams of paper like that as I once did.

‘Donkey in the Midst of Death.’ – My Swampy’s drawing from Tuesday.
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.26, 2023, under Illusration
I pulled two books,
‘Death in the Midst’ by Lawrence Block and
the Little Golden Book, ‘Farm Friends’. I opened that to a page with a donkey.
Per chance, during the chat, Cheryl Cornelius noted ‘Donkey’.
I made up the rest as I drew.
