February 5th, 2014 – What I’m drawing: My Springs Symposium Watercolor Painting #1
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.05, 2014, under Caricatures, Illusration
On January 28th I was part of a symposium about the condition of our springs in north Central Florida. My part was to illustrate each of the speakers. This is one of the set of Dr. Bob Knight, one of our most knowledgeable experts about water in Florida. Knowing Bob helped me play more here than i did with the others.
Bob opened his talk by announcing he had more bad news. I took it from there.
I’ll be posting the rest over the next week or so.

Here’s another peak at my annual Christmas card as i continue to work on it. Native Florida critters always dominate the illustration along with a Florida historic site. Here’s the Bald Eagle that can be found statewide. I should have the card finished tomorrow. Hope to start distributing cards Thursday and this weekend in southwest Florida.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.21, 2013, under Cartooning, Illusration
These are a few inked drawings that are last minute replacements for a set of buildings for a map I’m working on. I just couldn’t get the buildings to work and these figures probably better showcase the wares of the businesses involved.
November 7th, 2013 – #Dailyinks #6 – Deer, Drawing the Moving Target!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.07, 2013, under Illusration, Sketchbook
Was at Ocali Days today helping man the Marion County Museum of History booth. The event continues through Sunday at Silver Springs State Park.
After the event I hit the swamp hiking trail in the park and made my way to the connecting Silver River. I made a video, which I will feature separately. As I finished the video Scott Mitchell, Silver River Museum Director, was coming up with a group to take a boat ride on the Silver River to the head springs of the river.
After teh boat ride we all jumped in a trailer to be taken back to the main park. It was late, we traveled slow and discovered deer along the way. i decided to put ink pen to paper and whipped out these nearly contour drawings of various deer we saw. Drawing while the vehicle and the deer were in motion was a challenge!!!
