Swampy’s Florida
May 23rd, 2013 – Painting Progress
by Rob Smith, Jr. on May.23, 2013, under Illusration, Swampy's Florida
I’ve been adding watercolor today to the illustration done a few days ago. After finishing doing the caricature thing at a conference at the Rosen Shingle Creek, I headed over to the Smooth Java coffee shop to paint and take in the great jazz coming from the ceiling speakers. Here’s how this looks after over an hour of applying watercolor. It’s one of two projects I worked on in the coffee shop. I’ll likely finish it during the Florida Parent Educators Association convention I’ll be signing books at over the next two days.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on May.09, 2013, under Florida History!, Swampy's Florida
Attended the 8th Annual John Young History Maker Celebration put on by the Orange County Regional History Center. Grace Chewning, Peggy Jo van den Berg, Charlie Gray, Shirley Cannon, Bob & Texann Ivy Buck were there from our Orlando Remembered group.
Curtis Stanton was honored as a past History Maker for his extensive work as leading the Orlando Utilities Commission to what it is today. As Present History Maker, Rita Bornstein was recognized for her being president of Rollins College from 1990 until 2004 and her philanthropy.
As usual, I took no photos of myself but of Swampy. Above is a photo of Swampy with History Center volunteers with stacks of mini cupcakes handed out to attendees as they left.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Mar.21, 2013, under Cartooning, Illusration, Swampy's Florida
A good investment of three hours holed up in the back of a Steak ‘n Shake in Leesburg as I got two cartoons penciled and inked and finished a watercolor painting for a silent auction Saturday. I’ll post further about the painting on Friday.
Working Fast on the Next ‘Swampy’s Florida’.
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.04, 2013, under Cartooning, Illusration, Swampy's Florida
Hunkered down in a coffee shop working on the next Swampy’s Florida book: Swampy’s Florida: Doolittle Raiders at Eglin Air Force Base.
This for the, what has been labeled as of this past weekend, the last reunion of the members of the Jimmy Doolittle Raiders. The event takes place April 17th through the 20th in Fort Walton Beach.
This Swampy book has a bit of history of Fort Walton Beach, Eglin Air Force Base and of the heroes of the Doolittle Raid. Lots of drawings of historic B-25s, other World War II aircraft and aircraft carriers.
January 23rd, 2013: Pencil art for Florida beach prints
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.23, 2013, under Cartooning, Illusration, Swampy's Florida
Just chug-a-lugged out eleven pencil drawings of a series of beach scenes I’ll be doing later in February.
Stopped for dinner at Ashley’s Restaurant in Rockledge, Florida, for dinner and to get a little work done. Ate a fine prime rib and got the 11 drawings done in two hours and a half!
More to come as I work on each. Suffice it to write that I’ll be using lots of yellow ochre and cerulean blue!
January 9th, 2013 – Florida Artwork in the Process!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.09, 2013, under Cartooning, Illusration, Swampy's Florida
Penciled this during a meeting tonight as I prep for a series of watercolor paintings I need to get done. It’s part of a Swampy’s Florida series that will soon be available to interior designers through a Miami company. There will be two series. One much like this of Florida locations and Florida critters. The other series is of beach scenes around the state.
This is just the pencils of the artwork. Next I prep the art to be watercolored. I’ll be painting the art this Friday during the Art Walk in Downtown Mt. Dora, Florida, at Julianne’s Coastal Cottage store. I’ll be doing it live. If you’re in the area, please come by and say ‘Hello!’.
I did the penciling during a meeting of the Springs Alliance which I’m involved with. Certainly an appropriate time to be working on artwork about the Rainbow River.
This is from a photo taken by a friend of a half fallen cypress tree on the Rainbow River in Marion County, Florida
