March 20th, 2007 – Ernie Kovacs!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Mar.21, 2007, under What\'s New?
It was back in July that artist extrodinaire Hy Eisman recommended my drawing Ernie Kovacs. I wrote Kovacs name on a slip of paper and added it to the cup of humorous writer and creator names. Last week I came to the last name in that cup and it was Kovacs name. This week I add another 25 names into the cup.
Kovacs could be said to be ahead of his time if not for the majority dopey capitalists of today who think with their wallet and not their brains. Kovacs had the opportunity to shine and he did. I’m grateful he did it when he did. The monopoly media certainly wouldn’t let him be as innovative and creative now as he was then.
Next week from the current pop star cup comes Jennifer Lopez. Frankly, I’d rather do another drawing of Kovacs! Lopez is a grand example of the flairless, boring “celebrity” of today. Yawn. I fear we will from now on measure “celebrities” by only physical measurements rather than intellectual and personality ones.

You know I’d love to see some of the old Kovacs shows. I recognize the ape & drums sketch from your drawing! I also remember the cool credits that Kovacs did….

aaaaaaaaah, the Nairobi Trio… who could forget those naughtly little monkeys. honestly, that’s mostly what i remember of the show: the black and white images you recall from early childhood.
Kovacs was an originator. Darn tootin!
Great drawing of him!
