Interesting that you would choose a children’s story for your metaphor, since only someone with child-like naiveté could believe that the mud being thrown by the Republican’s represents the expression of a positive philosophy.

It’s hard to view Tolkien’s writings as being for children. He was, as many classic writers were of their day, making a political statement with his books. Frankly, it’s a less soap opera version of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, without the Humanism.

Involving “mud” being thrown, it’s one’s perspective. I really don’t see this Presidential race having “mud” yet. It’s pretty clean up to this point. I certainly would agree that a more constructive countering of the Obama campaign would be to point out the shallowness of it and it’s candidate. I don’t know what the McCain campaign is waiting for.

Considering the polls, I guess the McCain strategy is working, which is what I like to see.

The editorial comment I drew was really aimed at the plight of Hillary. After staking so much to get in office, an even less experienced person than herself nabbed the gold ring. Rubbing it in was Obama picking someone other than herself for V.P. Then to set fire to the injury, McCain picks a female for V.P. Adding gasoline to it all is that the female picked for V.P. is exciting the crowds and raising more money than Hillary did. I almost feel bad for Hillary.
Correlating to the Ring story is that Palin has been on a rather short mission to get the ring that Hillary has been watching for so long. Basically picking up on the main element left by Tolkien of the Wagner story.
