Author Schaal has done a tremendous job of encapsulating the history of Sanford and Seminole County between 1912 through 1935 in this book just full of history. Each chapter is one of the 23 years written about. There’s plenty to chew through here. Everything from the rise of the Florida Boom to the crash to the effects of the Depression.
Schaal often notes something that most miss in their city biographies and that is of the sports in the area. Schaal is obviously quite a sports fan and notes football, baseball, golf, etc players and the games and scores.
The book is well written with a very personal style. Schaal’s newspaper experience really helps this volume shine.
Bottom line: I recommend it.
