The Singing Sands by Josephine Tey
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Tey’s ‘The Singing Sands’ seemed at times more of a study of a mournful soul of Alan Grant, the main character. The mystery part being an after thought.
The story is clunky at best. With a secondary character that Tey has written in a very odd way that makes the story even more clunky. It was hard for me to get through this book without wondering what was going on in Tey’s life to assemble a depressing story of the main character.
The mystery meanders during Grant’s vacation to a conclusion that, i found, rather unsatisfying.
The writing is fine. Setting descriptions are often well done and other times lacking. There are a few other characters that are interesting. The rest are standard and very forgettable.
All this leading to explaining the mindset of Tey before she died, as this book was published after her death.
Bottom line: i don’t recommend this book. 4 out of 10 points.
