Had a blast today “signing” (drawing in) Swampy’s Florida books during the Florida SpringsFest. Here are a few photos. The stories behind most of the photos can be found on the Swampy’s Florida page.
What a father sets aside – March 2nd, 2016
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Mar.02, 2016, under Cartooning
Interesting what a father sets aside. Found a few decades of my artwork in a box of his. Newspaper art, comics strips, advertising pieces, comic books and personal artwork.
Spent weekend moving my father’s things to my house. Great thanks to brother Jeff Smith, his friend Steve and old pal James Goddard for the enormous amount of help! James even found a 40th birthday comic book I had done for him and his twin brother.
Sketching the Democrat Debate – January 17th, 2016
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.17, 2016, under Illusration
This is a mosaic of some of the sketches I did during the Democrat debate tonight. I’ll have to do more of this for more debates and the like. There are captions involved, but my working hard to get in no political debates or discussions here, I omitted those.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.25, 2015, under Illusration
All inked and ready for watercolor!
This newest painting is set in an exclusive area of Brevard County in Florida. Thanks to, my friends, the Cronkhite family I was able to take photos in the area. I used those to construct this illustration. More to come!
The finished painting can be seen during the 4th Anniversary open house at The Knowledge Exchange December 4th in Palm Bay, Florida.
#DailyInks #22 – Inking Swampy’s Florida cartoons!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.23, 2015, under Cartooning
Had a whirlwind last three days with little rest and lots done! Sunday I inked this set of cartoons for my Swampy’s Florida site.
Inked with a PITT Brush, soft brush and Tombow Fudenosuke hard brush pen.
#DailyInks #16 – Inking #cartoon of Uncle Sam and baby!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.17, 2015, under Cartooning
This is inked version of an editorial cartoon I’m working on for a client. The cartoon involves a baby being read to by Uncle Sam, as requested. This is a revision of an earlier cartoon. The original had three well known people in it and I had set them to the left due to them being recognizable and most eye catching. When the request came to swap Sam, I realized the baby would be most eye catching and so reversed the entire setting for effect and storytelling purposes.
Inked with a PITT soft brush.
#DailyInks #15 – Inking an Octopus!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.15, 2015, under Cartooning
This project dropped in as I drove to Lakeland Saturday afternoon and needed by Sunday night. Penciling and inking is easy. Coloring is the time eater.
This was inked with a Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen – Hard and a PITT medium pen.
#DailyInks #14 – More Caricatures Tonight!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.14, 2015, under Caricatures, What's New?
Been entertaining at a private event, here, in Lakeland, Florida this evening. Now at an IHOP penciling a last minute editorial cartoon assignment for a very good cause! Part of that will likely be my Daily Inks for tomorrow.
Caricatures inked with Markettes and a Kuretake brush.
#DailyInks #3 – My inked Got Candy & More Coloring Page! – November 3rd, 2015
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.03, 2015, under Cartooning
This is the inked #cartoon art for a coloring page that I still have to set up with border, logo and contact information. It’s for Got Candy & More in Lakeland, Florida. Great spot to get lots of homemade goodies, cup cakes & ice cream.
I couldn’t work at Got Candy! The very idea of being constantly surrounded with yummy cupcakes, homemade candy and ice cream is terrifying. That along with the obvious embezzlement of confectioneries that would send me up the river for a few terms at Raiford.
This was inked with Paper Mate medium Flair, PITT soft brush, and a Kuretake brush.
