January 30th, 2010 – Birthday Greetings!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.30, 2010, under Cartooning, Friends
I wanted to post the birthday card for my dear friend, Lucile Fair, whose birthday was last Tuesday. She is now 102 years old! One the other side of this card are signatures from my fellow cartoonists who were on the trip to San Antonio, Texas, the week before. I’ll keep those private as the messages are meant for Lucile…. but there are some pretty cool drawings on it!
I was going to do something very different for her birthday until it struck me in the hotel room in San Antonio that maybe my friends might sign a card. So, I whipped this up in about 20 minutes. It’s watercolor on Carolina one-sided card stock.
Also, Tuesday Sketch’s theme is “Happy Birthday!” and since Tuesday was also Lucile’s birthday, this really fits in.
I’ll be presenting the card to Lucile at a special birthday celebration for her on Sunday after church.
October 11, 2009 – Happy Birthday, Jacob!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Oct.11, 2009, under Books, Cartooning, Florida Restaurants, What's New?
Today is Jacob’s 15th birthday. Amazing but true, for those who know what this is about. I had lunch with my father at Steak and Shake. The sketch (First I’d done in the sketchbook for almost 2 months) is of gumball machines at the restaurant. Later I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend some time and talk Orlando history with my 101 year old friend, Lucile Fair. Later Met with Tex Ann and Bob Buck to work on Orlando Remembered display. Still later met up with ol’ Ken Culotta and worked on gags at a Denny’s. Below is a photo from that meeting.
