February 12th, 2014 – What I’m Drawing: Shirley Temple!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.12, 2014, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Celebrity Illustrations, Editorials
Here’s my latest editorial cartoon drawn today reflecting from a true media legend, Shirley Temple. Temple died this past Sunday at the age of 85. We will NEVER see someone like Tmple again. Society won’t allow it, as many other things are censored and not allowed. The cartoon above is speaking to our narrow view of the world today.
February 10th, 2014 – What I’m Drawing: A Grandmother at the Keyboard!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.10, 2014, under Caricatures
This was a watercolor painting I did of someone’s Grandmother as part of a larger package involving a caricature event. She likes to play a piano and work crossword puzzles.
January 9th, 2014 – Lots of work to do Today!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.09, 2014, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Illusration
Tons of artwork has to get done today! From caricatures to hiking cartoons to illustration, etc! Was hoping to be at a presentation today by Rick Smith, son of author Patrick Smith who wrote the Florida legendary book, ‘A Land Remembered’, but that looks impossible two hours before his presentation. Pen to paper and I’ll post what I can.
February 9th, 2014 – What I’m drawing: Springs Symposium Watercolor Painting #3 – Ryan Smart!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.09, 2014, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Illusration
On January 28th I was part of a symposium about the condition of our springs in north Central Florida. My part was to illustrate each of the speakers. This is one of Ryan Smart, of the Florida Conservation Coalition, who spoke of legislation to help cover the issues of our Florida springs.
February 5th, 2014 – What I’m drawing: My Springs Symposium Watercolor Painting #1
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.05, 2014, under Caricatures, Illusration
On January 28th I was part of a symposium about the condition of our springs in north Central Florida. My part was to illustrate each of the speakers. This is one of the set of Dr. Bob Knight, one of our most knowledgeable experts about water in Florida. Knowing Bob helped me play more here than i did with the others.
Bob opened his talk by announcing he had more bad news. I took it from there.
I’ll be posting the rest over the next week or so.
January 29th, 2014 – Springing to Illustrate Speakers about of Florida Springs
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.30, 2014, under Caricatures, Illusration, Swampy's Florida
Last night I was part of a Florida springs symposium with a wide variety of speakers updating the audience about the current status of our natural springs and about upcoming legislation.
My role was creating a unique painting of each speaker during their presentation. A few are on the table below. I have a bit of cleanup to do with each and I’ll post them here in the next week.

Inked next month’s Buck Wilde comic page. This is an ongoing mystery created by Lari Thaw and me, with my writing the story. It’s setting is New York and Florida involving a group of aging rock musicians and one’s son, Buck Wilde, who solves crimes and also plays in a rock band.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.12, 2013, under Caricatures
I love drawing dragons, dinosaurs and other types of reptiles. Dragons and monsters are especially fun. Don’t get much chance to draw them, except in caricatures. I could force the subject mater into the editorial cartoons, but that’s a lousy way to tell stories. So glad Nancy is a fan of dragons!
This event went fine until the past week’s grueling schedule caught up with me and really slowed me down.
I had to head straight home after this to get back to other projects I’m working on. It was a long drive and got home around 4am.
December 9th, 2013 – #DailyInks #38 – Caricature detours!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.10, 2013, under Caricatures, What's New?
When I woke this morning I had no idea the day would take so many sudden turns in so many directions! First I answered the call for a last minute caricature by changing plans and meeting the client and doing the artwork. While I was working on the caricature with the client, I got a call about a last minute caricature gig about an hours drive from where I was. Decided to meet that challenge and head in the opposite direction of home and drew at that event for a few hours. Now I’m staying overnight nearby and plan to see home tomorrow afternoon….. Depending on last minute requests! 🙂
December 7th, 2013 – #DailyInks #36 – Christmas Caricatures!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.07, 2013, under Caricatures, Cartooning, What's New?
It’s the Christmas time of year where I tend to find myself in a rash of Christmas parties entertaining with caricatures. Tonight was one such night in Melbourne. Here are a few I drew there. At the bottom is a photo of one of the many interesting baked items brought to the potluck party tonight. I hadn’t seen this type if cookie before and thought if interesting and very easy to make.
