On the #Drawing Board: Illustrating Springs Experts at our event Tuesday night, ‘Sacred Springs’.
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.06, 2014, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Illusration
I was part of the symposium about our Florida springs Tuesday night, named ‘Sacred Springs’. I was setup in the front of the auditorium and illustrated each speaker as they did their presentations to the audience. There were nine speakers this time and I couldn’t finish them all at the event. In the next couple weeks I’ll share some of the watercolor paintings I worked on. I didn’t get to finish as many as in other symposiums due to the limited time and the amount of speakers. I’ll be going back to finish the paintings.
‘Sacred Springs’ was a gathering of experts of our Florida springs. Speakers included Johm Moran, Dr. Robert Knight, of the Springs Institute; Guy Warwick, the Felburn Foundation; Jim Stevenson, Wakulla Springs Alliance; Doug Ray, Ocala Star-Banner & Gainesville Sun; Ryan Smart, Florida Conservation Coalition; Karen Ahlers, Florida Defenders of the Environment and Whitey Markle, Suwanee-St. Johns Sierra Club & Florida troubadour.
A surprise audience member was former Governor Buddy MacKay.

The Pine Castle Women’s Club art show is comprised of Florida artists presenting Florida history in various mediums.
February 26th, 2014 – Sketch Daily – Mr. T flies!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.26, 2014, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Celebrity Illustrations, Illusration
Saw the subject for a daily artistic challenge is the celebrity, Mr. T. A couple months ago i was thinking I wish i had a reason to draw Mr. T. Here it is!
I took the angle of Mr. T’s roll as B.A. Baracus in the television series The A-Team. In the series, B.A. hates anything to do with flying. Thus, he flies!
February 14th, 2014 – What I’m Drawing: A View of the Past!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.14, 2014, under Cartooning, Illusration
At the symposium of Florida springs last week, Scott Mitchell (above) gave an abbreviated talk of the history of the Silver Springs property. While initially sketching this out at the event, the idea of a telescope to the past came to mind. I was going to go further with a coin machine attached. I was going to keep the background blank and realized I needed to tie Scott to Silver Springs State Park.
February 11th, 2014 – What I’m Drawing: Hiking in Florida!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.11, 2014, under Cartooning, Illusration
This is part of the Florida Trail Association cartoon I illustrate for each issue of their Footprint magazine. The Florida Trail Association is the organization for hiking throughout Florida. I need to occasionally post some of the cartoons I made for past issues. I won’t be posting the current cartoon, though, as that’s one of the benefits of membership when getting the Underfoot magazine. 🙂
January 9th, 2014 – Lots of work to do Today!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Feb.09, 2014, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Illusration
Tons of artwork has to get done today! From caricatures to hiking cartoons to illustration, etc! Was hoping to be at a presentation today by Rick Smith, son of author Patrick Smith who wrote the Florida legendary book, ‘A Land Remembered’, but that looks impossible two hours before his presentation. Pen to paper and I’ll post what I can.
