#INKtober #24 – More Wedding Caricatures! – October 24th, 2015
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Oct.25, 2015, under Caricatures
#INKtober #24 – Been doing the caricature thing here in Downtown St Cloud for a wedding! Found a fellow who’s also a big old movie buff. Especially the gangster flicks.
This woman is AMAZING! She and her husband raised 10 children – 6 adopted while both having full time jobs AND volunteering for organizations!!! She and her husband moved to our state of Florida and, unfortunately, her husband died. Now in retirement, she finds herself still in the mode of her earlier life filling all of her time volunteering and still raising two of her children. Here’s a mother of the century nominee! — at Downtown St.Cloud.

Monique tells of her family’s trip along the Silver River this past weekend. Including being terrified when she found monkeys along the way! I explained of how monkeys got loose during filming of Tarzan films in the 1930s and that their descendants live along the river today.
Dotty enjoys oil painting landscapes of her native Pennsylvania these days.
Jaime rescues squirrels, loves horses and hates spiders!

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jul.23, 2015, under Caricatures, Cartooning, Florida Outdoors!
Meant to post these earlier! This one of 5 paintings I did for the speakers at an event our group, Silver Springs Alliance, had back in May. As each speaker spoke I illustrated what they were speaking about. LAter I added watercolor.
Here’s the one for, Florida folk singer/Sierra Club leader/all around good guy, Whitey Markle. He covered a great deal of territory and it was fun for me, knowing the area so well, to poke further fun at it all in the artwork. Each painting is given to the speakers as a “Thank you!” for coming out and helping more Florida citizens learn more about our water problems in our great state.
(Been meaning to post more, but have been on the road again! Lots going on the next few days. I should be posting a lot more.)
June 26th, 2015 – Drawing a hero!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jun.26, 2015, under Caricatures, Cartooning
Drew a wonderful group of older folks today. Including Joan Kelly who, along with her dancing partner, were entertainers for the USO and performed for troops waiting to go overseas during WWII. She tap danced and sung at bases in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Hard to imagine all of the joy she brought to our brave soldiers. She’s one of my heroes!
January 22nd, 2015 – Inking a Stack of Work!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.22, 2015, under Cartooning
I spent a few hours this evening inking a stack of pages involving a number of projects. I’m back in a local coffee shop. Second time this week with major accomplishments as a result. Been reading books of favorite writers, Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley & others of the Round Table and their need for a place to hole away and get work done. Realized I need to do the same again.
It’s been exactly a year since I stopped going to my old coffee shop haunt due to political reasons. Since then have bounced around at chain spots and other places. Seems I have found a new spot- or as pals Craig Zablo & John Beatty call my “office” – to hunker down and really get work done

November 14th, 2014 – Newest watercolor painting!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Nov.14, 2014, under Caricatures
This was a commissioned project of the publisher of the Orlando Sentinel and the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. The request was of a caricature of the publisher and of his travels back and forth between cities. Request was to include plane and car he traveled in. Also, to include Marriott he stayed in Orlando. I asked for more likes of the publisher to fill out for space – and make it more fun for me. I added the city scapes. On teh Fort Lauderdale side I included the Sun Sentinel building, a few other well known structures and the founding structure in the area, the historic Stranahan House. On the Orlando side, the Sentinel buidling, otehr structures and the Lake Eola fountain. My knowing both cities was a big help getting this done.
This is a 16″x20″ watercolor painting on Arches watercolor board.
On the #drawing board: Start of a mural of Cracker Florida!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.15, 2014, under Cartooning
This is just a small sample of a twenty foot wide mural I’m starting on. This part is of a stream with a cypress tree. In the stream is a bear and bunny making there way along. The mural also includes a Cracker-style home, a Florida panther cooking and, of course, an alligator – playing a banjo. I’ll add updates as I go along.
