January 29th, 2014 – More of my City Hall artwork: A Puppet Fairy Tale
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.29, 2015, under Cartooning
Here’s something else I did while at the City of Orlando, though i did a bunch of this with my own time. It was for the puppet theater the City used to have at the City Community Centers.
Each of the characters shown was also a puppet. I remember going out to get photos for this.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.28, 2015, under Cartooning

January 24th, 2015 – More Hand Painted Valentine’s Day Cards!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.24, 2015, under Cartooning
Here’s one of the Valentine’s Day cards I produced today. This is for her skin diving husband who looks for sea life of the octopus variety when he isn’t otherwise collecting guns. Nothing worse to encounter undersea than a well armed octopus. Should have had him say, “You kids keep off my lawn!”
January 22nd, 2015 – Inking a Stack of Work!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Jan.22, 2015, under Cartooning
I spent a few hours this evening inking a stack of pages involving a number of projects. I’m back in a local coffee shop. Second time this week with major accomplishments as a result. Been reading books of favorite writers, Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley & others of the Round Table and their need for a place to hole away and get work done. Realized I need to do the same again.
It’s been exactly a year since I stopped going to my old coffee shop haunt due to political reasons. Since then have bounced around at chain spots and other places. Seems I have found a new spot- or as pals Craig Zablo & John Beatty call my “office” – to hunker down and really get work done
December 3rd, 2014- My annual Christmas card artwork!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Dec.03, 2014, under Illusration
My annual Christmas card of Florida native critters inside The Ivy House in Ocala, Florida. Used lots of reference for the interior of the 1890 house/restaurant and had to skew things a bit to make the image more readable. Also, used more reference than years past for the critters. I tried to limit the animals a bit so that the interior of the building could be better felt and understood. I finished inking this Monday.
The Dorris Bobber Memorial Palmetto Bug is hidden somewhere. You’d need to see the actual card to find him, though. This is the first year Swampy, Trilby and Zuber of Swampy’s Florida appear as part of the illustration.

Christmas at Silver Springs! Meant to post this final version of the artwork earlier. Took me a while to get back to. Made especially for a group I’m with, the Marion County Springs Festival. This will also be available as cards and prints.

September 6th, 2014 – Signing Books in Homosassa Springs State Park.
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Sep.07, 2014, under What's New?
On the #drawing board today: Signed and drew in lots and lots of Swampy’s Florida books today at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park for “Speak Up Homosassa Springs”. Here are a couple photos from teh event.
The young fellow was funny. I asked him about what he likes and found him very articulate. So as he spoke of how he would like to wash things, I asked what he would like to wash. A car. How will you be sure the cars get washed? Will you be a manager? Yes. And on it went. He’s a thinking youngster and hope he stays that way!
August 29th, 2014 – On the Drawing Board: Gators, Whale Sharks and Swampy!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.30, 2014, under Cartooning
A brief hour and a half stop at a local coffee spot found me getting the above artwork done plus more. Rough sketches of baby gators, a sketch for a mural and a cartoon illustration for Swampy’s Florida. I also penciled and inked three editorial cartoons.
August 24th, 2014 – On the drawing board: Pages of artwork done!
by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.24, 2014, under Cartooning
Camped out in a coffee spot this evening and knocked out all this in two and a half hours. Have to wonder why I don’t do this more often. Since January when I blacklisted the coffee spot I had been going to, I’ve rarely stopped anywhere to chug-a-lug artwork out. Pressing needs are likely to get me back to coffee spots, or something like it. Sure to post more of the above and upcoming soon. Check out Swampy’s Florida each day in the next few weeks to see color versions of the bulk of the art above.

by Rob Smith, Jr. on Aug.04, 2014, under Cartooning, What's New?
In the past week I’ve been illustrating the celebratory days of the week. For example Tuesday is ‘Work Like a Dog Day’. My art for that is on the upper left. Click here to learn what that is about.
Swing over to the Swampy’s Florida website and watch the rest of the artwork turn into color. Return each day so you can know what to celebrate each day on the Swampy’s Florida website or the Swampy’s Florida Facebook page.
